Nic and Tanya: another Tom Dick and Sally Success Story!
Nic and Tanya contacted us to say they'd found each other on Tom Dick and Sally and gave us a ton of positive feedback. Thank you both!
They also agreed to do an interview for us. They are so happy and it shines through in the way they talk about each other.
Their top tips for a successful relationship? Be honest. Be yourself. We couldn't agree more!
Had you used a gay dating site before?
Tanya: No, but I used PlentyofFish.
Nic: I used Gaydar Girls which was rubbish and Pink Sofa which was even worse, also tried sites like plenty of fish but found Tom Dick and Sally (you) to be the best by miles.
How many people had you flirted with online before you met your partner?
Tanya: About 4.
Nic: Er, quite a few.
How long from first message/flirt to first date?
Both: Well we started talking on the 3rd of Feb 2010, swapped e-mail addresses and mobile numbers and spoke practically everyday until we decided to meet up on the 3rd April 2010.
What did you do on your first date?
Tanya: I had my little girl who was 2 at the time with me and travelled to Leeds on the train to meet Nic.
Nic: I tried to be helpful and tell Tanya what I was wearing so she could spot me at the station, but she found it really funny as she already knew what I looked like after seeing my photo's. I'd also racked my brains to plan a fun day to keep Alexus (Tanya's daughter) amused. Both: So we ended up going to Tropical World in Leeds where we had to keep ducking from very large low flying butterflies (Tanya: and I had to drag Nic away from the baby meerkats!), after that we went for a pub lunch, took a walk around Roundhay Park where we spent a while feeding the ducks, sat in the park talking and then went to Nic's for a cup of tea.
Nic: Just before Tanya was due to leave she told me she'd had a really nice day and didn't want it to end. Then she asked me what I had planned, when I said nothing she asked if I fancied going down to hers in Rotherham to watch films. I thought it was brilliantly spontaneous and took her up on her offer... and introduced her to Top Gun as I'd been raving about it and she'd never seen it.
When did you realise that she was The One?
Tanya: after we had been meeting up and seeing a lot more of each other and getting to know her more about 3 month into our relationship.
Nic: I'd had a really hellish end to 2009, followed by an even worse start to 2010. The first time I genuinely smiled and laughed was when I spent time with Tanya and she was really understanding about what I was going through, couldn't have asked to meet a better person - that's what made me realise she was the one.
Do you plan to move in together or get married?
Both: Yes! We are moving in together next year as we wanted to spend more and more time together and the cost of travelling was getting far too much we are currently saving up to move in and we are planning on getting married on the 23rd of April 2014 as that gives us time to save.
What's the best thing about your partner?
Tanya: Nic's really sweet, she gives me unexpected suprises such as candlelit dinners and little romantic gestures eg. roses, teddys. She is also a fantastic parent to Alexus and I couldn't ask for more.
Nic: There's so much it's hard to choose just one! Tanya is very loving and caring, she'll do little things to cheer me up if I've had a bad day at work such as running me a candlelit bath and gets me really thoughtful gifts just because she can and wants to make me smile... after another bad day at work I came home to find she'd bought me a box and filled it with some of my favourite things (Lush bathbombs, chocolate, socks, etc).
What's the most romantic thing you've done for each other?
Tanya: I got my mum to have Alexus so me and Nic could have a romantic night in, I laid rose petals all over my bed with a teddy in the middle. I also spelt out 'I love you' on my bed with (50) tea light candles.
Nic: When I told Tanya I loved her I wanted it to be perfect, so when her mum babysat one night and Tanya came up to mine, I took her on a midnight walk down the side of a river, to a spot where there are some fishing docks and a stone building with multi-coloured lighting on it, it was all quiet and the lights and moon were reflecting off the water surface, it looked beautiful and while I was cuddling up to her on the dock I told her I loved her - it totally took her by suprise, she was speechless!
Any tips for those who are still looking for their perfect partner?
Both: Be completely honest with them from the start, if they don't like you for who you are it won't work. We found that swapping e-mail addresses gave us the chance to talk to each other every night and get to know each other better before taking the plunge and meeting each other (it also gave us the chance to see each other on live webcam so we knew we were genuine - as there can be dodgy profiles and people out there).
Anything else you're dying to tell the world?
Both: Yeah, be yourself, don't change for anyone and keep talking to people as there is someone out there for everyone!
